‘Canning Place’ The Former Merseyside Police HQ Site set for transformation – Public Consultation Announced
Canning Place, The former HQ of Merseyside Police, on Liverpool’s world-famous waterfront is poised for a transformation as Merseyside Police have today announced they are seeking public input on the site’s future.
The completion of the new £48m HQ at Rose Hill in 2021 led to the evacuation of approximately 650 officers and staff from Canning Place, strategically located next to Liverpool ONE.
Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell has initiated a public consultation process to determine the fate of the 2.65-acre Canning Place site. Collaborating with renowned consultants Colliers, Mace, and PLACED, Spurrell aims to go beyond a simple sale to the highest bidder and involve the people of Liverpool in shaping the future of this prime location near the Royal Albert Dock.
Commissioner Emily Spurrell expressed her vision for the site, stating:
“The sale of Merseyside Police’s historic former headquarters is a unique opportunity to create something special on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront. I am committed to ensuring this pivotal plot of land is used for a high-quality development which will enhance the city and have a long-lasting economic, social, and environmental value for local people.”
Interested individuals are invited to contribute their thoughts on potential uses for the site by participating in an online survey. Additionally, two consultation events will be held at a pop-up shop in Liverpool ONE on South John Street, next to Oliver Bonas, on Monday, February 5, from 10.30 am to 6 pm, and on Thursday, February 15, from 11 am to 6 pm.
Mike Brassington, Director at Colliers, emphasized the significance of this opportunity, stating:
“This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the future development of Canning Place and provide positive feedback that will best inform the eventual site disposal. Canning Place fronts The Strand, Liverpool’s world-renowned waterfront, and is adjacent to Liverpool ONE. As such, the opportunity will appeal to a range of regional, national, and international developers seeking to invest in Liverpool.”
