Work on Liverpool’s Irvine Street and Upper Mason Street has started as roadworks get under way to connect the £1bn Paddington Village development to the city’s wider network.

The works come as a number of projects at the £1bn Paddington Village are now moving forward at pace, with contractor Kier set to deliver a £28m college and student accommodation centre for Kaplan by September next year.

Elsewhere on the site, Interserve has begun works on a £35m cancer centre for Proton Partners International, while Morgan Sindall’s site clearance works to make way for The Spine, a Northern headquarters for the Royal College of Physicians, are also progressing.

Future phases could provide further office, commercial and educational space, while the site has also been mooted for a potential maths college run by the University of Liverpool.

Cllr James Noakes, Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for transport and highways, said: “Paddington Village is an important regeneration scheme that will bring a wealth of new industries and new jobs to the city.”
