Torus wins consent for £30m Liverpool scheme
Affordable housing provider and Liverpool Place Partnership partner Torus, has secured planning consent for a £30m development in Liverpool’s northern docklands.
Located next to Stanley Dock and adjacent to the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, the 0.8-hectare former industrial site in Lightbody Street, off Great Howard Street, will see the construction of 185 apartments and 10 townhouses.
Built as an affordable housing scheme, the project will offer one, two and three-bedroom properties available via Rent to Buy. It will also create 7,750 sq ft of commercial space split between new units on the ground floor of the proposed apartment building and the site’s disused railway arches. Work willl begin in spring 2022.
Torus says it will “breathe new life” into the derelict site and create a community that not only recognises, Liverpool’s maritime heritage through incorporating a number of pedestrian links alongside the north edge of the listed Stanley Flight Canal Locks.
