NEW BRIGHTON WATERSPORTS FACILITY DEVELOPMENT SET TO BE APPROVED
Plans to establish a watersports and adventure park in New Brighton look set to secure approval next week.
ADV Liverpool is behind the application, which is earmarked for Marine Lake.
The company took over the lease of the site earlier this year and has since fleshed out its proposals.
The main element would be Wake Park, comprising a cable tow system between two 12m towers with one large anchor each and a running cable strung between them.
ADV said the structure has “revolutionised the sport of wakeboarding”.
Also lined up is an Aqua Chimp ropes course; a floating element constructed from mild steel poles and support beams.
The remaining area of water would be used for water sports including paddle boarding, canoeing, sailing, swimming, pedalo hire boats and mini port kids’ electric boats. No petrol/diesel-powered motorised vessels will operate on the lake, save for a rescue boat.
The application has received 115 representations in favour, 72 against and 11 neutral.
It received praise for being a “great leisure attraction” for the area and bringing New Brighton back as a “main contender” in the resurrection of seaside towns.
The application is set to go before Wirral Council’s planning committee on 23 June in a virtual meeting. Approval has been recommended.
