More than 300 jobs are being made available this week to young adults in the Liverpool city region under the Government’s Kickstart scheme.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak unveiled Kickstart scheme in summer 2020 as part of his Plan for Jobs. It offers fully-funded six-month jobs placements for young people aged 18 to 24 who are in receipt of Universal Credit. It offers either Minimum or National Living Wage.

In February, public relations entrepreneur and founder of Moore Media, Jayne Moore, set up a new venture called I Am Moore (IAM) aimed at up-skilling young adults across the Liverpool city region. Heading up IAM is chief executive Lynn Lock.

To date, IAM has sourced 408 vacancies across the North West, Birmingham and London and is well on target for its plan to create 500 roles within the first year of its launch. By the end of this week, 100 of those roles will have been filled.

With exam results days looming next month, IAM is urging young people who want to enter the world of work to grab the opportunity with both hands. Some of the vacancies include a digital marketing assistant, assistant architectural designer, finance assistant and trainee lab technician.

Alfie Kearns, 23, was on Universal Credit when he heard about IAM on local radio. He immediately got in touch with the team, quickly securing himself a job with IAM helping young people like him get into work.

He said: “2021 did not have the start of dreams, I was unemployed, unmotivated and unheard. Then, one afternoon I was in the kitchen with my nan when I heard Lynn Lock from I Am Moore on the radio, talking about opportunities, social justice and personal development.

“It was like colour poured into my world, there were vacancies out there for talented, young people of our city region who had too long been shut out. After making contact with Lynn, she offered me an amazing opportunity to work with her and help other people like me as part of the I Am Moore team.”

IAM will be hosting a series of career events and pop ups across the Liverpool City Region in the coming months to try and match young people with the right jobs. The next event will be held at Liverpool Town Hall, on Wednesday, July 28.

Lynn Lock added: “It’s been a joy that so many companies in Liverpool have embraced the I Am Moore kickstarter enterprise and recognised the value of welcoming these enthusiastic young people into their teams.

“There is so much untapped talent waiting to find the right role, who have until now not had a lot of luck finding employment due to COVID. IAM is the perfect opportunity to resolve this.”

The event on July 28 takes place between 10am and 4pm. Anyone aged 18 to 24 on Universal Credit would like to attend should contact their work coach. Click here for more information about available vacancies.
