LIVERPOOL USES BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY TO BECOME WORLD’S FIRST ‘CLIMATE-POSITIVE CITY’
Liverpool bid to become the world’s first climate-positive city moves boldly forward with the announcement of a new, innovative blockchain partnership.
Combining forces with blockchain platform company, The Poseidon Foundation, the city plans to offset more than 110% of its total carbon emissions.
A year-long trial will utilise a blockchain platform to offset the carbon impact of all products and services in the city by supporting global forest conversation projects.
The technology will play a pivotal role in the city’s newly announced ambition to become the first climate-positive authority in the world by 2018 and the first climate positive city by 2020.
The Poseidon’s Foundation, Laszlo Giricz said: “This is a ground-breaking partnership not just for Poseidon and Liverpool, but globally. For the first time, a city will use blockchain technology to go beyond rebalancing its carbon footprint – leading the way in the fight against climate change.
“Liverpool is a trailblazer a shining example to other cities in the UK and across the world on what can be achieved…”
