Liverpool City Region social gaming platform secures “6 figure” investment

The Liverpool City Region based social gaming platform ‘Betmate’ which allows users to play against each other has received backing from a syndicate of angel investors.

Betmate was founded in 2020 by Ryan Lawrence, Declan Dowling and Dan Leaper, with the idea to take the bookmaker out of betting, so people play against each other.

The cash, the exact sum hasn’t been revealed, will be used to launch its first product, which will be based around the fantasy football format. Users will be able to back themselves and play for money in pool betting competitions.

“This investment will allow us to launch our Fantasy Football game in time for the new Premier League season. It enables us to continuously improve the product and identify our key metrics before looking to raise our seed round,” explained the co-founders.

“Having these angels on board helped us massively when pitching and raising venture capital funds.”

The company was introduced to the investors by LCR (Liverpool City Region) Angel Network.

“Betmate is exactly the sort of innovate venture the angel network was established to support,” added Mark Rathbone, a partner at Brabners, a co-founder of the LCR Angel Network.

“Coming from a law firm with considerable expertise in technology and sport, it was easy to see the potential for this product – as well as the amount of research that had been undertaken for its creation. I wish the Betmate trio every success as they take their next entrepreneurial steps.”
